Dos and don'ts for healthy wavy hair

Wavy hair is beautiful, but it can be tricky to keep it looking soft, shiny and defined.

The right habits can make all the difference and the wrong ones can lead to frizz, dryness and waves that fall flat.

Here are the essential dos and don’ts to keep your waves healthy and happy.

Do

Use sulphate-free shampoo

Sulphates strip the natural oils your hair needs.

A gentle, sulphate-free shampoo cleans without leaving your waves dry or brittle.

Condition every wash

Waves lose moisture faster than straight hair.

Always follow shampoo with a nourishing conditioner to lock in hydration and keep your hair soft.

Dry with a microfibre towel or T-shirt

Regular towels rough up the cuticle and cause frizz.

Microfibre towels or soft cotton T-shirts soak up water without disturbing your wave pattern.

Scrunch in styling products

When your hair is damp, apply foam and gel by scrunching from the ends upward.

This helps encourage your natural wave shape and boosts definition.

Don't

Brush dry hair

Brushing waves when they’re dry breaks up the pattern and creates frizz.

Instead, detangle in the shower with conditioner using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.

Overload on product

Too much product can weigh your waves down and make them greasy.

Start small. You can always add more if needed.

Use high heat

Frequent use of straighteners or high-heat blow-drying can weaken your wave pattern and cause split ends.

If you must use heat, always apply a protectant spray and keep the temperature low.

Wash every day

Daily washing strips away natural oils that protect your waves.

Aim for 2–3 washes per week and refresh in between with water mixed with gel or our Refresh Spray.
