Tips for achieving volume at the roots

One of the biggest struggles for wavy-haired individuals is getting volume at the roots.

You’ve spent time styling your waves perfectly, but your roots still look flat. This can happen due to product buildup or applying products too close to the scalp.

Here’s how to achieve root volume while keeping your waves light and bouncy:

1. Shampoo the scalp thoroughly

When using our Cleanse Shampoo, concentrate on the roots and scalp for a deep, effective clean.

Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp using your fingertips, or use a silicone scalp brush. This helps stimulate circulation and lift away any product buildup, oil, or impurities. Clean, refreshed roots are essential for achieving natural volume.

2. Condition only the ends

Apply our Repair Conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. It is most needed here as the ends are older and more prone to damage.

Avoid applying the conditioner near the scalp. This can weigh down your roots and leave your hair looking flat. This method helps keep your hair full of volume.

3. Add lift with foam

Our Cast Foam is specially formulated to be lightweight, providing your hair with noticeable volume without the heaviness or residue that can weigh it down.

For extra volume boost, flip your head upside down when applying the foam, focusing on the roots. This technique helps to lift the hair at the scalp, creating more body and fullness while giving your waves the definition they deserve.

4. Gel and diffuse for extra volume

Once you’ve applied the Protect Gel, diffuse your hair with your head upside down. This will lock in volume at the roots while preserving the shape and definition of your waves.

A diffuser adds volume by dispersing airflow evenly over the hair, allowing it to dry without disrupting the natural wave pattern.

5. Refresh your waves

Revive your waves with our Refresh Spray. It's designed to reactivate your waves and give your roots a much-needed volume boost. Perfect for in-between wash days.

Spritz the spray onto your hair to bring back bounce and definition. For added lift, gently scrunch your hair at the roots as you apply the spray. This will help lift the hair and create volume where it’s needed most.
