1. Keep it clean but not stripped
A clean scalp supports healthy growth, but there is such a thing as too clean.
Over-washing or using strong cleansers can strip the scalp’s natural oils. In response, it often produces more oil to compensate, creating a cycle of greasy roots, dry ends, and overwashing.
Aim for balance. Wash often enough to remove buildup, sweat, and pollution. But don’t wash so often that your scalp feels tight, itchy, or uncomfortable.
2. Don’t ignore buildup
Styling products, dry shampoo, hard water, and even natural oils can build up over time. This can block follicles, dull hair, and make waves feel heavy.
If your roots feel greasy very quickly, your scalp feels itchy, or your hair looks flat no matter what you do, buildup is often the culprit.
Now and then, give your scalp a deeper cleanse to reset things. Clarifying shampoos for wavy hair are great for unclogging buildup so your follicles can breathe again.
Our Clarifying Shampoo is great for removing scalp buildup. It revitalises dull, greasy hair by removing excess dirt, impurities and product buildup, without stripping your hair’s essential oils.
3. Be gentle on your scalp
Scratching, aggressive brushing, and rough towel drying can all irritate the scalp. Then, irritation leads to inflammation, flakes, and sensitivity.
When washing, massage gently with your fingertips rather than your nails. When detangling, start at the ends and work your way up. Treat your scalp as gently as you treat your face.
4. Circulation matters
Healthy blood flow helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles, which means healthier hair. A gentle scalp massage can support this.
Just a few minutes of light pressure during washing or before bed is enough. No fancy tools required, just a bit of TLC.
5. Listen to what your scalp is telling you
Flakes, itchiness, tightness, or soreness aren’t things to push through. They’re signals from your scalp. When your scalp’s unhappy, your hair probably will be, too.
When your scalp feels balanced, your hair growth and waves will follow. Healthy hair starts at the roots.
