Make the mermaids jealous.
You can’t beat that ‘Just back from the beach’ hair. Soft, wavy and effortless.
Growing up by the sea, memories of warm summer days spent at the beach (and the luscious hair that followed) inspired our founder, Abi, to embrace her natural wave.
So, she made a hair care routine to keep that mermaid feeling all year round. And now she’s on a mission to empower more women to embrace their waves…
Wash your hair the right amount. Washing too often can strip away the natural oils your waves need, but washing too little can lead to build-up and flatness. For many people, two to three times a week works well.
Do not brush your hair when it is dry. This breaks up the wave pattern and creates frizz. If you need to detangle, do it in the shower with conditioner in, using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
Try to keep heat styling to a minimum. Straighteners and high heat can weaken your wave pattern over time, so if you do use heat, keep it low and use a diffuser where possible.
Do not rough-dry your hair with a normal towel. A microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt is much gentler.
Try not to touch your hair too much while it dries, as this can create frizz and disrupt the wave pattern.
Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase can also help reduce friction overnight and keep your waves looking better in the morning.
Merwave’s Wavy Hair Starter Kit is a five-step routine designed to support natural waves without weighing them down.
- The Cleanse Shampoo removes build-up while keeping your scalp fresh and your waves soft.
- The Repair Conditioner deeply hydrates, detangles, and helps reduce frizz and breakage.
- The Wave Cream is a lightweight styling step that enhances texture and adds soft hold without feeling greasy or heavy.
- The Cast Foam helps lock strands into a soft cast, giving your waves shape, bounce, and frizz control.
- The Protect Gel is the final step, adding flexible hold and helping your waves stay defined for longer.
Used together, these products help create smoother, more consistent waves with less effort.
After washing, apply conditioner, then use the Wave Cream, Cast Foam, and Protect Gel on soaking wet hair. Scrunch gently, diffuse on low heat or air dry, and leave your hair alone until it is fully dry.
That is the secret to beach waves all year round, a simple routine, lightweight products, and a few small habits that protect your natural texture.
