How to dry wavy hair

Unlocking the full potential of wavy hair can be an exciting journey, but it often comes with its own set of challenges. Among those challenges is finding the best way to dry your waves without compromising their natural beauty.

The drying process plays a crucial role in enhancing your waves, minimising frizz and achieving a hairstyle that truly showcases the unique texture of your hair.

Let's explore the two core drying techniques...

Technique 1: Diffusing

Diffusing is one of the most popular methods for drying wavy hair. It has several great benefits:

Enhanced curl definition: Diffusing can help define your natural waves and curls, resulting in more defined, bouncy curls and waves.

Reduced frizz: Wavy hair can be prone to frizz, and diffusing can help reduce it by distributing the heat more evenly and minimising manipulation.

Faster drying time: Diffusing can speed up the drying process compared to air-drying, as the warm air from the diffuser helps to evaporate moisture from the hair.

Increased volume: Diffusing can add volume to wavy hair, making it look fuller and more voluminous.

Reduced heat damage: Since diffusing uses indirect heat, it can be less damaging to your hair than direct heat styling tools like flat irons or curling irons.

Overall, diffusing wavy hair can help you achieve a more polished, defined, and voluminous look without subjecting your hair to excessive heat or styling damage.

Technique 2: Plopping

Plopping is a popular method that involves using a microfiber towel, to gently wrap and secure the hair on top of the head.

The purpose of plopping is to encourage the formation of well-defined waves, while also minimising frizz.

By keeping the hair in a pile on top of the head, plopping allows the waves to set and products to penetrate into your hair strands, without being disturbed or flattened by gravity.

It's done after applying your styling products to wet hair. You then leave the microfibre towel in place for about 20-30 minutes. Then whip it off and let the rest air dry.

Technique 3: Micro plopping

But if you don't have 30 minutes you could try micro plopping...

Micro plopping is a variation of the plopping technique that involves using smaller sections of hair instead of gathering all the hair at once. It's also done after applying styling products to wet hair.

Instead of piling all the hair on top of the head, micro plopping involves individually scrunching sections of hair with the microfibre towel. This technique allows for more control and definition.

Both techniques are effective in reducing frizz and encouraging natural texture. Your hair is likely going to take longer to dry than if you diffused, but it's a super easy way to dry your hair naturally.
