3 tips to stop your hair from getting knotted

If you have wavy hair, you know how frustrating it can be when tangled.

Those knots can cause damage and breakage.

Here are our top three tips to stop those tangles in their tracks.

1. Use a Deep Conditioning Mask

Wavy hair tends to be drier, making it more prone to knots.

Using a deep conditioning mask once a week helps lock in moisture and keep your hair soft and smooth.

Apply the mask to clean, damp hair, focusing on the ends where tangles usually form.

Leave it on for about 10–30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

The extra hydration will make your waves easier to manage and less likely to tangle.

2. Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb

When your hair is wet, it’s more fragile.

That’s why it’s important to use a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush.

Start at the tips of your hair and gently work your way up to the roots. This helps avoid breakage and makes detangling easier.

Remember: don’t rush! Taking a few extra minutes to comb your hair gently will pay off with fewer knots later.

3. Protect your hair while you sleep

Tossing and turning in bed can cause knots.

Use a satin or silk pillowcase to cause less friction and tangles.

You can also try a loose bun before bed. This will keep your waves in place and make them smoother in the morning.
