How often should you wash your hair?

I wash my hair once every 10 days.

Sounds gross. But there’s a method behind the madness.

Let me explain why you should try and wash your hair less frequently...

Our hair produces natural oils, called sebum. These oils are vital to healthy hair. They nourish your locks, protect it from damage, and maintain its shiny and lustrous look.

Oils also keep hair hydrated, which helps reduce frizz.

Washing too often can strip away these natural oils, causing your hair to dry out. Making it more susceptible to breakages, split ends and frizz.

Your scalp can also become irritated by over washing. Disturbing its moisture and oil balance, leading to dryness and flakiness.

Regular washing can also make your hair greasy. Why?

Because it’s become accustomed to washes.

So, when you fail to wash it, grease quickly builds up.

What’s the trick to transitioning from daily to weekly washes?

Slowly move the goal posts. Try washing your hair in the morning, then wait until the following evening for your next wash.

You’ve already increased the interval from 24 to 36 hours. Then extend this out to every other day.

Eventually you’ll be comfortable washing your hair once or twice a week.

Your hair will become healthier. It’ll look shinier and more lustrous.
